JAHIDUL ISLAM

Dr. Jahidul Islam is an accomplished structural engineer and academic currently serving as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Asia Pacific (UAP) in Bangladesh. He brings a wealth of experience and expertise in structural and geotechnical engineering, gained through diverse roles in academia and industry across Bangladesh, Singapore, and Australia.
Dr. Islam’s academic journey is marked by notable achievements, including a PhD in Concrete Technology from Deakin University, Australia, and an M.Eng. in Concrete Technology and Structural Engineering from the National University of Singapore (NUS). His research has significantly contributed to understanding chloride diffusion in concrete, with several publications in prestigious journals and conferences. His work has earned him scholarships and awards, such as research scholarships from Deakin University, Monash University, and NUS, as well as the Australian Ceramic Society bursary.
In his current role at UAP, Dr. Islam teaches undergraduate courses in structural engineering and supervises both undergraduate and master's theses. He also plays a pivotal role in consulting services for industry clients and administrative tasks, including accreditation processes for the civil engineering program. His commitment to education is evident through his additional responsibilities as the Chair of the Program Self-Assessment Committee and advisor to the Civil Engineering Student Forum.
Dr. Islam’s industrial experience is extensive, having held key positions such as Principal Structural Engineer at Bangladesh Infrastructure Consultants Limited & ECLECTIC Limited, where he led projects involving the structural assessment, design, and retrofitting of buildings and bridges. His consultancy work has spanned high-profile projects, including the design and retrofitting of commercial, industrial, and residential buildings, as well as critical infrastructure such as bridges and culverts.
Earlier in his career, Dr. Islam worked with KK Lim & Associates Pte Ltd in Singapore, where he was involved in the structural and geotechnical design of high-rise residential and commercial buildings. He also managed construction projects for Abdul Monem Limited in Bangladesh, overseeing school-cum-cyclone shelter construction and high-rise commercial building projects.
Dr. Islam is proficient in various structural design software and laboratory techniques, making him a valuable asset in both academic and professional settings. His dedication to structural engineering and education continues to inspire his students and colleagues alike.

Dr. Mohiuddin Ahmed,P.Eng., a seasoned professional, has served as a Former Associate Professor at MIST, a retired Lieutenant Colonel in the Bangladesh Army Corps of Engineers, and currently holds the esteemed position of Head of the Department of Civil Engineering at a Private University. Dr. Ahmed's extensive academic background includes the successful completion of a PhD in Civil Engineering (Geotech) from the esteemed Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET).
With a career spanning over a decade, Dr. Ahmed has made significant contributions in the fields of research, teaching, and has also held vital engineering roles, including Chief Engineer of Chattogram City Corporation and Garrison Engineer of Dhaka and Chattogram Cantonment.
Dr. Ahmed's expertise encompasses soil testing for building foundation design, consulting on Foundation Safety Analysis for various Armed Forces projects, and contributing to specialized civil engineering projects such as the EIA for the Marine Drive road project and Coastal Embankment protection works. His professional endeavors also include providing proficient engineering solutions, particularly addressing drainage system issues, landslide hazards, pavement base stability, and foundation design in weak soil conditions across diverse regions of Bangladesh.
